Group PreSTAR
What does it mean to move up to PreSTAR?
It means that your skater has mastered many of the CanSkate program criteria and is at a minimum CanSkate stage 4 (attained forward crossovers, backward skating, stopping, turning forward/backward, learning backward crossovers) and at coach discretion.

The PreSTAR Program introduces skaters to all disciplines of figure skating - free skate, dance, and skating skills. It is an excellent opportunity for skaters to achieve personal growth and development in a group atmosphere.

Our goal is to ensure that skaters gain skill and confidence and prepare to take Preliminary level Skate Canada tests.

Lessons are taught by Professional Coaches in a group lesson format.

**All skaters must wear a CSA approved helmet until they have passed their Stage 5 CanSkate badge.
Skate Canada Professional Coaches will assess your skater throughout the session and let you know when they are ready to remove their helmet.

Group PreSTAR Skaters will be learning basic figure skating skills. It is important that your child have a proper fitting pair of figure skates to be successful with these new skills. Skates that are too big, too small or without proper support will make skating more difficult for your young athlete. If you have questions about skates, please speak with a Skate Canada Professional Coach about proper fit and support.

Please dress in clothing enables skaters to use their full range of motion and allow them to perform jumps, spins and other skating skills without restriction. Skaters should dress in layers so that they can adjust their clothing if they are too hot or too cold. Female skaters should wear a skating dress or yoga attire, warm tights, leg warmers, sweater and mitts/gloves. Hair should be pulled back away from the skater’s face. Male skaters should wear running or yoga attire, sweater and mitts/gloves.

Volunteer Requirement

For the 2024/25 season, four hours of volunteer time is required per family of PreSTAR skaters.  Each family must submit a $250 post dated cheque that will be returned upon completion of volunteer commitment. Skaters may not skate until cheque has been received by the Registrar or Treasurer and will be collected at first lesson. Executive board members are exempt from Volunteer Requirement.

Year End Carnival - March 2, 2025

To showcase our skaters, we hold a year-end Ice Carnival. This annual event includes skaters from ALL programs enrolled in Session B. It is an excellent way to finish the season, and a real hit with participants and spectators alike! Skaters have group routines choreographed, and costumes, provided by Lacombe Skating Club, for the show.

Participation in Carnival is completely optional, however we ask you let your coach know as soon as possible if your skater will not be participating. Lessons do continue for all skaters, and lesson format may take on a follow the leader type structure as routines, for those participating, begin to take shape
